China’s Unique GeForce RTX 4090 D Consumes Less Energy, Lacks Overclocking Ability

Nvidia is set to release the GeForce RTX 4090 D in Asian markets by the end of January 2024, as the original RTX 4090 faces regulatory issues in China. This new GPU, designed exclusively for gaming, will have a lower TGP and will not support overclocking. The AD102-250 GPU, a cut-down version of the original AD102-300-A1, will power the RTX 4090 Dragon, although details about the total CUDA cores are still unknown.

The reduced 425W TGP indicates a potential reduction in CUDA cores and transistor count. The original RTX 4090 FE features 76 billion transistors and 16,384 CUDA cores, paired with 24GB of GDDR6X VRAM. However, it is likely that the video memory will remain unchanged. The new GPU is expected to have a higher base clock at 2,280MHz and a boost clock of 2,520MHz.

Despite these changes, the price of the RTX 4090 D will remain the same as its predecessor, with Nvidia planning to launch it at an MSRP of ¥12,999 (£1,451.) Nvidia is committed to maintaining the performance of the original specifications while ensuring compliance with US export guidelines. Despite the performance reduction, the price will not decrease, disappointing PC gamers in China.

Samples of the AD102-250 GPU are currently being distributed to Nvidia AIB Partners for testing, and more information about the new GPU is expected to emerge in the coming weeks. This suggests that there will be further leaks and details about the RTX 4090 D in the near future. As individuals eagerly await the release, it is clear that Nvidia is making efforts to ensure the survival of the RTX 4090 in the Chinese market amidst regulatory challenges.
