Congress warns of America’s limited understanding of the deepening influence of China’s espionage and propaganda in the U.S.

The United States Congress has discovered that the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) has infiltrated the nation. The CCP has set up secret police stations in several major American cities and has even established “Little Red Classrooms” in kindergartens. The U.S. Congress released a memo, detailing the extent of the Chinese influence operations in America, through its united front system. Members of Congress have revealed growing concerns over the CCP’s use of influence and espionage in the U.S.

China apparently spends billions every year in its united front system, which is affiliated with some 600 groups in the U.S. Members of the United Front Work Department (UFWD), controlled by the CCP, keep track of the country’s Uyghur population, and manipulate propaganda to defend the CCP’s treatment of the group. They collect intelligence and control overseas Chinese-language media outlets. In addition, the CCP seeks to influence Chinese diaspora groups in the U.S, according to the report. The networks built by UFWD, are viewed as prime operating grounds by PRC’s intelligence agencies, which seek to draw on members of its united front organizations to support espionage and influence operations.

The report also highlighted concerns over the CCP’s infiltration of U.S. schools. There are close ties between CCP and U.S. schools. The CCP has heavily funded K-12 schools throughout the U.S., and close coordination to establish Confucius Classrooms has historically included 143 school districts in 34 states and Washington, D.C. The report also revealed that the CCP has connections to school districts near 20 U.S. military bases and has infiltrated three of the nation’s top science and technology high schools.

The U.S. Congress warns that the CCP’s influence operations are extensive and the threat may get worse if left unattended. The report also highlighted the FBI and CIA’s intensified efforts to counter Chinese espionage and influence operations within the U.S. This involves tracking Chinese efforts to recruit spies within the U.S. and determining Xi’s ambitions with Taiwan.

The U.S. Congress’s report warns of the CCP’s growing influence and espionage in America. It revealed that China spends billions of dollars each year in its united front system. The CCP has infiltrated U.S. schools and Chinese influence operations in the U.S. have deeply rooted ties to Chinese intelligence agencies. The FBI and CIA have intensified efforts to counter Chinese espionage and influence operations in the U.S.
