Garnet Trust, the official NIL collective of University of South Carolina athletics, made headlines this week after announcing the signing of a name, image, and likeness (NIL) agreement with Alex “Boogie” Huntley. The agreement means that Huntley, one of South Carolina’s impact starters on defense of the past season, will be returning to the team.
Huntley, a native of South Carolina, signed with South Carolina as part of the 2020 recruiting class and had an impressive season as a redshirt junior. During the 2023 campaign, he appeared in all 12 games, starting 11 of them, and delivering a strong performance.
This announcement comes after fellow Gamecocks Tonka Hemingway, T.J. Sanders and Jalon Kilgore publicly indicated that they will be returning for another year in the Garnet and Black. The return of these key players is sure to boost the confidence and performance of the South Carolina team.
Huntley has also earned recognition for his contributions to the team, including being named the 2023 Co-South Carolina Spirit Award on Defense. He has demonstrated leadership skills and a great attitude both on and off the field.
His journey to the University of South Carolina began with an impressive high school career at Hammond School in Columbia, where he was recognized as Mr. Richland County Player of the Year. He was also a standout student and athlete, engaging in various sports, including basketball, lacrosse and track & field. His accomplishments made him a highly sought-after talent, ranking among the top players in the country.
